How to zip a collection of files
Unfortunately, zipping files using Android phones is a bit complicated. A separate app is required for this. There are several good apps on the Play Store including ‘GArchiver’, ‘WinZip’ (one of the oldest zip related apps) and ‘Rar’ (will compress your files using multiple protocols including zip and rar).
If you have a Samsung phone, you get another option to zip files without third-party help:
-
To zip multiple files, go to the folder named ‘My Files’ and select the files you want to zip.
-
Select the option with three dots named ‘More’ at the bottom right of the screen, and click on the Compress option.
-
Enter a name for your compressed file, check the ‘Protect’ option with a password if desired. Select the Compress button.
How to unzip
You can unzip a zipped file using Google’s ‘Files’ app which comes bundled with many Android phones. (If not on your phone, you can also download it from Play Store.)
-
Within the Files app, select the ‘Browse’ option from the bottom menu. Next, tap on the search icon at the top right corner.
-
The easiest way to find a zipped file (if you don’t remember the original file name), is to simply type the word ‘zip’ in the search option above.
-
Click on the file you want to unzip.
-
You will be asked if you want to extract the files or what type of files they are (such as images or documents). Press the Extract button.
-
Another pop-up window will inform you that these files have been extracted and their types will be repeated. There is also a checkbox to delete the original zip file. When you are done, press the ‘Right’ button.
If you have a Samsung phone, you can also use the My Files app:
-
In My Files, tap the file you want to extract.
-
Select the three-dotted peacock icon. Next select Extract or ‘Extract to Current Folder’ option.
