‘Smart’ Bangladesh will produce ‘smart’ athletes: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government is making efforts to produce smart athletes to ensure Bangladesh’s participation in any international sports competition.

Sheikh Kamal said this while officially inaugurating the final phase of the second Bangladesh Youth Games at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday evening, Basus reported.

The Prime Minister said, “We have developed Digital Bangladesh. Our next target is to transform the country into a smart Bangladesh, which will help in producing smart athletes and thus we can achieve the standard of participation in any international sports.”

Bangladesh Olympic Association has been organizing the Bangladesh Games and Youth Games every four years since 2018. Around 4,000 athletes will compete for 193 gold, 193 silver and 287 bronze medals in 193 events across 24 disciplines in the final phase of the second edition of the Youth Games.

“I believe, the Youth Games will add a new dimension to the sports arena and act as a platform to produce star players,” the Prime Minister said.

Highlighting the athletes as soldiers to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country by 2041, he wished them all success in the Youth Games.

Sheikh Hasina congratulated the Bangladesh Olympic Association for naming the second Bangladesh Youth Games after Bangabandhu’s eldest son Sheikh Kamal.
