Majority of mobile phones are manufactured in the country: Tipu Munshi

Benelli Electronics for Oppo and Realme brands in FY 2019-20; Gramin Distribution accepts BTRC’s license for Lava and Maximus. The following year Nokia licensed Vibrant Software to manufacture phones.

Mycell Technology for Mycell, DBG Technology for Xiaomi in the latest fiscal year 2021-2022; Linux Technologies accepts licenses for Linux, Bengal and Marlux.

Zakaria Shahid, managing director of Edison Group, warned that so many brands and companies involved in mobile production could be a threat to the sustainable development of this sector.

BTRC chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder said, “The government will monitor the matter for some more time. After that, any policy will be adopted if necessary to bring order to this sector.”

It was informed in the seminar that currently there is a market of 36 thousand crore rupees for mobile, TV, fridge, computer, laptop and other electronic devices in the country. For the past one year, 97 percent of the demand is being met by domestic factories.

In addition to domestic brands in the refrigerator market, foreign brands like Samsung, LG, Eco-Butterfly, Singer, Warpool have also started production or addition.
