Former Pabna MP Habib got bail


The court has granted bail to Salim Reza Habib, the former member of parliament of Pabna-2 Constituency, who was arrested in the case of Paltan police station in connection with the clash of BNP with the police in Naya Paltan.

However, the judge denied bail to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and the party’s Chairperson Special Assistant Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.

Dhaka’s Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Tehsin Iftekhar gave this order after the hearing on Thursday.

Advocate Syed Zainul Abedin Mesbah and Md. held a bail hearing on behalf of the accused. Zaker Hossain. Additional PP Mahbubur Rahman opposed the bail for the state.

Syed Zainul Abedin Mesbah told bdnews24.com, “Since there is no arrest warrant against Selim Reza in any other case, there is no obstacle to his release. Hopefully, he will be released today.”

Police clashed with BNP workers on December 7 amid tension surrounding BNP’s Dhaka divisional rally. A ward-level leader of the volunteer group, who was injured in the clash, died in hospital.

After that, the police said that they raided the BNP office and got hand grenades. About five hundred activists were arrested.

More than 2,000 BNP leaders and activists were accused in four police cases in Paltan, Motijheel, Shajahanpur and Ramna police stations in connection with the clash. Among them, BNP leader Salim Reza Habib, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Shimul Biswas were arrested in the case of Paltan police station.
