State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury told the DCs that no one will be able to build a bridge without the permission of BIWTA regarding how high a bridge can be built on a river.
He said that a ‘clear message’ has been sent to the District Administrators regarding the low height bridges being built in the country’s rivers.
The state minister said this to reporters after exchanging views with the DCs at Osmani Smriti Auditorium in the capital on Thursday, the last day of the ongoing District Commissioner’s Conference.
He said, “Various types of ships ply in our rivers. In this case, the bridges should be built keeping in mind which river the ship will be moving. It is cleared by BIWTA. In this case, I have asked the District Administrators to supervise that no one can build any bridge without their permission from Roads, LGED, Bridge Department.”
