Passengers returning to Dubai caught with 1/2 kg of gold in Shah Amanat

A quarter of 2 kg gold was recovered from a passenger coming from Dubai at Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport.

The smuggling was caught when the Fly Dubai passenger landed in Chittagong at around 10:30 am on Tuesday when the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and NSI officers searched him.

Arrested Ziaul Haque is a resident of Companyganj Upazila of Noakhali.

Airport manager Wing Commander Tasneem Ahmed said, “The passengers brought gold from Dubai by coating their pants, jeans and underwear in a novel way.

“According to tip-off, he was detained and searched soon after he got off the plane and gold was found.”

An officer of Customs Intelligence said that after finding the presence of gold in the sando genji, pants and underwear he was wearing, it was brought to Hazari Street in the city and melted. Besides, two gold bars and 100 grams of gold ornaments were also recovered from him.

“A total of 429 grams of gold per kg is obtained from the clothes worn. Two gold bars weigh 233 grams. A total of 1 kg 762 grams of gold was recovered from the passenger.

The customs intelligence officer said that the estimated value of the recovered gold is Tk 1 crore 27 lakh 84 thousand and legal measures have been taken in this incident.
