Just eating rice does not get ‘rice sleep’. Even if you eat too much of any food, the body gets tired and falls asleep.
It is pleasant to sleep well after eating too much at night, but it is normal to wake up at work after lunch.
However, most of the time, if you feel sleepy after eating, you need to do a health check. Because this situation can lead to diabetes.
According to a report published on healthline.com, the state of falling asleep after eating is called ‘food coma’.
The symptoms are:
Sleep Drowsiness, drowsiness and laziness, tiredness, fatigue, lack of attention.
Although given the name ‘food coma’, it does not mean complete unconsciousness. Only severe physical injuries can cause unconsciousness.
* High protein and salty foods can cause sleepiness.
This information is available in a 2016 study conducted by ‘The Scripps Research Institute’, ‘Florida Atlantic University’, and ‘Harvard University’ in the United States.
* Eating foods high in carbohydrates, fats and proteins can also lead to ‘food coma’. Because the source of these is tryptophan.
In this regard, ‘University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine’ associate professor Dr. Raj Dasgupta said in a report published on CNN, “The amino acid tryptophan is required for the production of serotonin hormone. This hormone is used in various functions of the body. It also includes sleep and mood balance.”
“A ‘byproduct’ of serotonin from tryptophan is the hormone melatonin, which regulates the sleep cycle.” Said this professor.
He also said that our body cannot prepare tryptophan. Food is its source.
US ‘National Library of Medicine’ informs – In addition to chicken and turkey, eggs, cheese, fish, milk, almonds, pumpkin seeds and sesame also contain tryptophan.
So it is normal to feel sleepy if you eat more of this kind of food. In addition, consuming highly refined grains like white rice can quickly raise blood sugar levels and tire the brain. As a result, the body becomes tired, lethargic and sleepy.
