Chhatra Dal leader at mother’s funeral with handcuffs and sticks


District BNP vice-president Abul Hossain said that the funeral of Salim Reza’s mother was held at Sujan Doal village of Sadar Upazila around 2:30 am on Sunday. He was then buried in the graveyard of the mosque.

After the death of his mother, he was released from prison on parole, but his handcuffs and shackles were not removed during the funeral. During the burial, he could not put soil in the grave with open hands and feet.

Chhatra Dal leader Salim Reza’s family members said that Salim was arrested by the police from the central office of BNP on December 7. Then on December 10, he was arrested in a case of sabotage of Paltan police station and sent to central jail in Kashimpur, Gazipur.

Salim Raza’s brother Shamim Munsi said, “Mother died at Begum village home on Sunday morning. After that, an application was made to the District Magistrate of Dhaka for the release of Selim’s parole through a lawyer. Pursuant to the application, Salim was released on parole for 10 hours from 4:30 pm.
