Deputy Secretary of the Bridge Authority md. However, it is still proposed. It will require the approval of the Ministry of Finance. The Law Ministry will wait. It will then be finalized after the approval of the Prime Minister’s Office. In the meantime, the toll rate may change.
According to the feasibility study of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, an average of 28,305 vehicles will ply every day in 2025 after the tunnel is opened. Apart from this, the traffic movement has been estimated at 37,946 in 2030 and the target of vehicles in 2067 has been set at an average of 1,62,000 per day.
However, if the toll rate of the tunnel is not kept at a tolerable level, the drivers will be reluctant to use it, said Delwar Majumder, former chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Chattogram Center. He told Prothom Alo that shah amanat bridge is an alternative to go to South Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar from all over the country including Dhaka. Therefore, the toll rate of this bridge has to be taken into consideration in determining the toll of the tunnel. If the toll rate becomes high, then the expected traffic movement will not be allowed in this tunnel made with this huge investment.
