Ecuador’s game was confirmed 12 days before the start of the World Cup

Chile alleges Ecuadorian club Barcelona SC defender Castillo played eight World Cup qualifiers using a fake passport and birth certificate.

First, the country went to FIFA with this serious complaint. However, after analyzing the data submitted by all parties concerned, FIFA decided to close the investigation against the Ecuadorian Football Federation on June 10.

Chile later appealed to the organization’s Appellate Division. Last September 16, their application was rejected by the relevant department of the highest governing body of world football. Then Chile went to the Supreme Court of Sports with that demand.

CSA said the Ecuadorian football federation violated a section of the FIFA disciplinary code by using documents containing false information. Although Castillo’s Ecuadorian passport was correct, some of the information provided was false.

Chile finished the South American region qualifying in seventh place with 19 points. Ecuador confirmed playing in the World Cup in Qatar from the fourth place with 26 points.

Castillo’s play in the qualifiers earned Ecuador 14 points from eight matches. Two of these matches were against Chile.
