A decision on Carrera’s future is due in November

“It was a long meeting. The meeting was not a decision, but a review. The results of the matches in the last two rounds, the technical reports, how we prepared, what level we are at now, how our performance was, how much the result was consistent with the performance, these were reviewed. The members of the committee have given their opinion and asked questions. We had a review with both the national team coach and the technical director, there was no conclusion.”

Kabarera started his journey as Bangladesh coach with a goalless draw against Mongolia last March. In the next match, the team drew against strong Indonesia. But after defeats against Bahrain (2-0) and Turkmenistan (2-1) in Asian Cup qualifiers, they fell to hosts Malaysia 4-1.

Furoy Cabrera is looking for his first victory as Bangladesh coach after the team beat Cambodia, who lead the FIFA rankings, 1-0 in two friendlies played in September.

With the high confidence of that victory, Vharadubi again entered the friendly match against the host Nepal. Jamal-Zikora lost 3-1. A few days earlier, Sabina-Mariara celebrated winning the first title of SAF Championship by defeating the girls of Nepal by the same margin. So Nabil’s disappointment is more with the loss of the boys.

“We had two kinds of reviews. Since there were two types of games. The matches in the Asian Cup last June were tough matches. Before going there we had a goalless draw with Indonesia in a warm-up match. Then we lost 2-0 to Bahrain, but they are 107 places ahead of us in the ranking. Losing 2-0 against them but playing well for us is a sign of losing, losing 2-1 against Turkmenistan, they are also 60 steps ahead of us in the ranking (57). These are not matches of our choosing, but scheduled. It’s just that we didn’t play as expected there against hosts Malaysia.”

“Like us, you have seen, if we have 3 or 4 games in a row, then in the third or fourth game we don’t go as expected. Today’s main discussion is about why it is not, how it can be improved here. Although Cambodia is 20/22 places ahead of us in the ranking, we won in their field. It was a positive message for us. At that time our country was also floating in the tide of happiness, as at that time our girls returned to win the SAFF Championship. But then we went to Nepal and lost 3-1, which was very disappointing for us.”
