The Election Commission is holding a meeting with the District Commissioner and the police to know the overall situation of the Trinamool ahead of the next parliamentary elections and to give directions regarding the upcoming Gaibandha by-elections and Zilla Parishad elections.
The meeting started at 10 am on Saturday in the auditorium of the election building in Agargaon, Dhaka. Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal is presiding over it.
In his welcome address, he spoke about the importance of DC-SPs in the democratic governance system of government and local government formation through elections.
He said, “By virtue of your position, you perform important responsibilities close to the people. You must have realized the importance of forming government and local government through elections in a democratic governance system.
“The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and exchange views on the joint responsibilities, roles and actions of you and the commission regarding all constitutional and statutory elections.”
All District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been called in this meeting. Senior Secretary of Public Security Department of Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police are present in the meeting.
Election Commissioner said about this meeting. Ahsan Habib Khan had earlier said, “(EC) wants to understand the field report about the overall situation. Those who are performing the duties at the district level, want to know their challenges.
“If we start working on the parliamentary elections a little earlier at all levels and can keep monitoring, then success in conducting the elections is guaranteed, Insha’Allah.”
